And there is often the expectation that someone who makes his living with his body should keep it looking good. Some of the fat football players (who are btw the lineman, especially offensive linemen, & isn't it interesting how often they are called "hogs" & how often editors a play-by-play editors announcer, giving the starting lineup at the beginning of the game, saying, "And, now, the big eaters up front", as if the fat guys ALWAYS eat more than the lean, muscular ones) get a lot of pressure to lose some weight too. Often coaches & owners want their lineman big, but not TOO big. And HOW you are big makes a big difference in how you are perceived. Roger Clemens & David Wells are both 6'4", & weigh around 235-240. |

There is something to be said for being there, and that is a benefit fat men enjoy in popular culture which fat women don't have. With some men, I think that they have to be 100 pounds over what is called "ideal" before they worry about their weight being a problem. As 0880016493 I said, men up here tend to be accepting about their weight, they are as likely to have relationships as thin men, &, so, for that matter, are most fat women in Maine. Either we have a lot of FA's in Maine, or just a lot of men who don't stress much about the size of a woman's body. I have had some very intimate, personal conversations with men in the world of Al-Anon, &, in this part of the country at least, a man is more likely to worry about his penis being too small than about his belly being too big, & to worry most about how he is doing financially & how he is succeeding at his job. |
