It kind of plays into that whole notion that women need to be smaller, quieter and less powerful than men otherwise they are not real women and no real man would love them. The only women who are allowed to films be noticed are those that are beautiful because of course beauty has it's own power. As I said before Space is Power and I believe "society" which is essentially sexist cannot deal with a woman taking up her power and that is why we have far more to deal with when we are fat. These are not yet fully formed theories but I have been mulling over this notion of power lately and it just seems to fit somehow. |

| I hope that it never reaches here. Posted by turtlegrrl on November 10, canon 2003 08:27 PM. It seems to me that there is something to the idea that being fat as a male is almost a power thing. Men are allowed to take up much more space than women and taking up a bigger space can mean you canon are much more powerful than the person canon beside you taking up less space. I am sure there is a limit to how "fat" a man can get but if you think of guys like Orson Welles, Dr Phil etc., they are all large and one could say fat men but they are powerful. Society keeps trying to tell us that men are supposed to be bigger than women my question is WHY? If I do the same job as a man am the same height eat the same etc., why does he get to weigh 50-60lbs more than me and that's okay "he's not fat he's just a big guy?" Yeah yeah yeah we all know the argument that guys have more muscles than women and muscles weight more but hey women are supposed to have more fat because if they didn't they wouldn't have breasts and menstruate. |
