Acknowledging this should not be interpreted as diminishing the societal pressures on fat men, but it would just be profoundly unfair and unrealistic to act like they are the same.

Let us not forget the example of poor Steve Bechler, that Orioles rookie pop who died trying to lose a few pounds he'd put on during the offseason, knowing that he probably wouldn't make the team unless he did. And of course, anorexia and bulimia are widespread problems for male jockeys, who are expected to be much lighter than the average male in order to compete in horse racing. Another exception is actors -- yes, a large percentage of male actors are gay, but even the straight ones fret about their bodies.
