In addition to being 55 pounds lighter and in better shape, Bagley’s documentary crew hauls much of Vaught’s load, lightening his pack (as we mentioned in an earlier fat man fed up update), and they chauffeur him to hotels at night much of the time, returning him to the place he fat man fed up left off the next day. He still spends some nights in the tent, however. Financially, Vaught and his family will make out pretty well from the walk. The fat man fed up documentary footage will become an 8-to-16 part television series. Bagley, owner of First Tuesday Productions, was tipped off to Vaught’s walk early on by a friend at the San Diego Union-Tribune, who has also become involved in the filming. Bagley became Vaught’s de facto agent, facilitating the book contract with Regan Books. |

| Update 10 (October 1, 2005): Sign on fred anderson San Diego | J. Harry Jones (San Diego Union-Tribune) | Read article Finally, a new newspaper story on Steve Vaught, the Fat Man Walking. From what we can tell, reporter J. Harry Jones spoke to Vaught during the New Mexico segment of the Fat Man Trail, but it fred anderson isn’t clear if fred anderson they have spoken since Vaught’s media blackout. However, Jones has found new source: documentary producer Pierre Bagley, who is filming Vaught with a small crew. Vaught is not quite to Oklahoma yet. Precisely where he is he’s not telling in his online postings, since he’s trying to avoid reporters and hucksters trying to get his endorsement. Jones says that Vaught is getting a little testy, which comes through sometimes in his postings on his discussion group. Perceived negative coverage offends him, says Jones, including the photo from a San Diego newspaper (reproduced in one of our earlier updates) of Vaught chowing down on chicken fried steak. |
