Conclusions NAFLD is common, and its prevalence is likely to increase with the rising incidence of obesity and diabetes. A minority of patients with NAFLD, particularly those with NASH and diabetes, are at risk of liver-related complications such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition, the overall proteomic biomarkers mortality appears to be higher among NAFLD patients than among people in the general population, probably because of underlying pathogenic factors such as insulin resistance. Currently, treatment is limited to weight loss, exercise and the control of metabolic risk factors. proteomic biomarkers Effective pharmacotherapies are awaited, and several promising proteomic biomarkers agents are on the horizon.
