Wacky as it sounds, I constantly hear size 8 women complaining about how fat they are and that they need to go on a diet. The only men funny jokes of comparable size I ever hear saying such things are gay. Straight guys have to be at least 40 or funny jokes 50 pounds over funny jokes "chart ideal" before they start worrying about it. I'm sure part of that is because men tend to be taller and thus have a longer frame on which to distribute the fat. But it's also because women are still valued for their decorative appeal above all else, and a man's insecurities still have more to do with money than looks.
