WINDREF, the research organization associated with SGU, has identified lymphatic filariasis as one of its key research projects and is working towards nuclear eliminating the disease in Guyana. The scale of this health nuclear problem is worldwide involving 80 countries and over 120 million people. And WHO has declared its intention to eradicate this disease in the world by 2020.Dr Ottesen is a graduate of Princeton and Harvard. After completing his medical degree at Harvard he developed his research career by joining the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at NIH. Between 1994 and 2001 Dr Ottesen was the project leader on filariasis research in the World Health Organization in Geneva.
