Oppenheimer encouraged celebrity oops his scientists to engage in "free discussion" and constantly bucked against military authority while simultaneously maintaining an illicit affair with a known communist sympathizer. Groves wanted total control of every single aspect of the project and openly despised the undisciplined idealists who comprised the scientific staff. Wake up, fuckass! Not all movies need tits, nuclear explosions and buggery to be entertaining. |

| you liked the movie? Yes. Yes, I did. It's slow. It's slow and unless you have a vested interest in the history of the Manhattan Project, it'll probably bore you to magazines tears. But it was magazines good to see Newman and Shultz bring to life what has to be history's oddest odd couple. Groves and Oppenheimer? Yes. Those two guys hated each other. They had completely opposite personalities and Newman and Shultz do an incredibly effective job of bringing that to light. You don't hear much about Dwight Shultz as he's sadly been doing mostly voice work for magazines about the past decade, but he really shines in this movie. His interpretation of J. Robert Oppenheimer stands out pretty strongly. Shultz's Oppenheimer is effete, self-centered, egotistical and eliteist. The man was a brilliant scientist but could also be a total ass. On the other side of the coin, you have Newman, who brings the character of Leslie Groves to life as an autocratic, hard-nosed, ragingly tumescent dick of a man willing to break any back and crush any opposition necessary to achieve the goal at hand. |
